The Los Angeles Times has promoted Rebecca Bryant to politics deputy editor. She will help lead the midterm elections coverage after a temporary assignment with the Washington, D.C., bureau. Most recently, Bryant was an assistant foreign editor and national editor and worked on the 2020 presidential election spearheading breaking news and live blogs.

Rachel Saltz has taken on a new role at The New York Times and will now serve as classical music and dance editor. She has overseen the paper's dance coverage since 2015. Before joining The Times in 2003, Saltz worked at Sports Illustrated, Essence magazine and the Daily Racing Form.

WSJ. Magazine has announced multiple promotions, and the launch of its Style News Desk:

  • Sarah Ball has been promoted to editor, style news. She was most recently the digital director at WSJ. Magazine and joined the staff in 2018 from GQ magazine.
  • Yael Kohen has been promoted to deputy editor, style news. She was most recently the arts and entertainment editor at the magazine and has been on staff since 2019.
  • Longtime WSJ reporter Kelly Crow has joined the Style News Desk. She was most recently covering the art market for The Journal and has been on staff since 2005.  
  • Longtime WSJ reporter John Jurgensen has also moved to the Style News Desk. He spent the past 17 years covering entertainment for the newspaper. Prior to that, he was a reporter for The Hartford Courant and the Associated Press.
  • Another longtime WSJ reporter, Ellen Gamerman, has moved over to the Style News Desk. She has been with the paper since 2005 and spent the past decade covering arts and culture. Before WSJ, Gamerman was a reporter at The Baltimore Sun.
  • Lane Florsheim, previously a digital staff writer for the magazine, has joined the Style News desk team as a style reporter. She has been at WSJ. Magazine since 2016 and before that spent two years at Marie Claire.
  • Myles Tanzer, who spent the past three years as publishing editor/digital editor for the magazine, is also moving to the Style News desk. Prior to joining WSJ in 2019, he was a senior editor at The Fader and a freelancer writer for Vogue, New York Magazine, and The Daily Dot.
  • Saira Khan has joined the Style News Desk as an editor.  She spent the past four years at WSJ. Magazine as senior platform editor and before that worked for The New Yorker as director of social media.

Allison Wisk has been promoted to deputy editor helping to oversee coverage of politics and policy at the Washington bureau of the Los Angeles Times. She has been at the paper since 2016 and since then has been California politics editor leading a team of reporters covering politics and state government. Prior to joining The LA Times, Wisk spent more than 10 years at the Dallas Morning News.

The Associated Press has named Steven Sloan deputy Washington bureau chief for U.S. politics and elections. Most recently, he oversaw political news for AP in Washington and managed AP’s coverage of the 2018 midterms and the 2020 presidential campaign. Sloan joined the news service in 2018 and before that worked at CNN and Politico.

Bailey Schultz has moved to the business desk at USA Today as a general assignment reporter. She spent the past year as a travel reporter for the paper. Schultz joined the USA Today in May 2021 from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, where she was a business reporter for three years covering gaming, tourism, economic development, startups, and tech.

Gizmodo has tapped Lauren Leffer as a breaking news reporter focusing on science, the environment, tech and more.  Leffer was previously a Brooklyn-based science, health, and environmental journalist whose work has appeared in National Geographic, Popular Science, Audubon Magazine, Scienceline, and other publications.

Lyle Moran has joined Industry Dive as a reporter for Legal Dive. He spent the past two years as a legal affairs writer for ABA Journal and before that reported for numerous publications, including the Los Angeles Daily Journal, the Voice of San Diego, Above the Law, the San Diego Daily Transcript, the Lowell Sun and the Associated Press.

TechCrunch has welcomed Harrison Weber as senior climate technology writer. He was most recently a senior reporter for dotLA covering venture capital, and before that spent two years as the breaking news editor of Flipboard. Weber has also worked for Gizmodo as a senior news editor and at VentureBeat as executive editor.

Douglas Sams has been officially promoted to editor in chief of Atlanta Business Chronicle. He spent the past three months as the interim editor in chief and joined the staff in March 2021 as senior news editor. Prior to that, Sams was the commercial real estate editor at The Business Journals for more than a decade.

Fortune magazine has announced multiple new hires and promotions across the newsroom:

  • Chris Joslin has been promoted to supervising producer, feature video. He was most recently a senior video producer and has been on staff since 2015.
  • Michal Lev-Ram has been promoted to editorial director of Live Media and editor at large, upped from senior writer. She joined Fortune in 2011 as a writer and has since covered enterprise technology and the entertainment industry.
  • Anne Sraders has been upped to senior writer, investing. She was most recently a finance reporter and joined Fortune in 2019 from an internship at the Dow Jones.
  • Megan Leonhardt has been promoted to senior writer, success. She was previously a senior reporter and joined Fortune in July 2021 after spending almost four years at CNBC as a money reporter.
  • Emma Hinchcliffe is now senior writer, The Broadsheet, Fortune’s daily newsletter for and about the world’s most powerful women. Before joining Fortune, she worked as a reporter for Mashable and the Houston Chronicle.
  • Holly Epstein Ojalvo will join Fortune May 9 as managing editor. She was most recently a deputy editor and interim editor in chief of The Fuller Project, and before that served as talent lab editor for Quartz, where she led newsroom hiring, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Alexei Oreskovic will join Fortune as deputy tech editor in mid-May. He will be based in San Francisco and will be tasked to expand the magazine's team of beat reporters. Oreskovic was most recently the San Francisco bureau chief and tech features editor at Insider. Before that, he was a tech correspondent for Reuters and The Street.
  • Jennifer Fields has joined Fortune as deputy editor and will launch a big new section for the magazine. She was previously executive editor at PopSugar and senior director at WebMD. 
  • Alicia Adamczyk has joined the magazine as senior writer covering personal finance. She comes to Fortune from CNBC, where she was a senior money reporter for three years. She has also worked for Lifehacker and Money.com.
  • Taylor Locke has joined the staff as a crypto reporter. She was also previously at CNBC and has also reported for Yahoo Finance and Fox Business Network.
  • Erin Prater has joined the staff as weekend editor from the Colorado Springs Gazette, where she was most recently the night Metro editor.

Rahel Solomon has joined CNN International as a New York-based correspondent. She will report on global business news across all CNN and CNNI networks and platforms. Solomon joins the network from CNBC, where she was a general news reporter for "The News with Shepard Smith,” “Halftime Report” and “Power Lunch.” Before that, she was a morning news anchor at CBS3 in Philadelphia.

NBC News has announced two staff updates:

  • George Solis has joined NBC News as a national correspondent, based in Philadelphia. He comes from WPVI, the ABC O&O in Philadelphia, where he was a general assignment reporter since 2019.
  • Will Ujek has joined NBC News as a field producer based in Cleveland, Ohio at the network’s Midwest Bureau. He was most recently an anchor and reporter for NBC Cleveland for almost a decade, and before that worked at WTRF and WKKX in Wheeling, W.V.

Telemundo has named  Aranxta Loizaga anchor of its late night network weekday newscast, which airs at 11:35 PM ET/10:35 CT. She is an Emmy-winning broadcast journalist and has been at Telemundo since 2021. Before that, she spent 13 years at Univision. With Loizaga's move to nights, Rebeka Smyth was tapped to replace her on the network’s morning show hoyDía. Since her arrival to the network in 2016, Smyth has worked as NY correspondent, anchored the 11:30 pm newscast, co-hosted Al Rojo Vivo and most recently led the “Sin Filtro” segment.

NPR has announced two staff updates:

  • Arnie Seipel has been named deputy Washington editor. He had been serving in the capacity for the past few months and before that was the supervising political editor.
  • Deepa Shivaram has joined NPR’s Washington Desk as a reporter. Before that, she was a campaign embed at NBC News, covering both Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren through 2020, and was an associate producer at NBC's Meet the Press

Harrison Malkin will join Illinois Public Media in May as politics reporter. He was most recently a research assistant for Michael Moore, where he copy-edited and fact-checked the filmmaker's Substack essays, researched podcasts guests for 'Rumble with Michael Moore,' and handled social media strategy.

KTVT-TV, the CBS station in Dallas, has welcomed Nicole Baker as an anchor on the 5, 6 and 10 weeknight newscasts along Doug Dunbar. Baker was most recently an anchor/reporter for WJZ-TV in Baltimore, Maryland, and before that spent three years as a morning news anchor for Hearst Television in Savannah, Georgia.
