Eight can’t-miss media relations conferences for 2009
The latest & greatest events in public relations, marketing and media
We constantly hear about new conferences that promise practical takeaways, how-tos of the latest technologies and advice from superstar industry experts. But with tighter budgets and less time than ever, how does one decide which events to attend?
I’ve compiled a list of eight of the top PR conferences in 2009. Social media and other emerging technologies and trends seem to be the hot topic this year. Some conferences from last year haven’t been announced again this year… but keep an eye out for news about PRWeek‘s Next Conference and IABC’s Research & Measurement Conference (scheduled for October, but a specific date hasn’t been set).
So, without further ado, here are eight terrific conferences (in chronological order). What conferences am I missing? Did you attend any of these last year? Feel free to submit your feedback below…
PR News Media Relations Next Practices Forum (March 10, Washington DC): If you need a quick media relations boost, this conference is jam-packed with the latest in social media, measurement, media training and crisis management – all offered in one day.
ALI’s Social Media Summit (April 27-30, Toronto): The Advanced Learning Institute’s 6th forum will explore how the latest Web 2.0 technologies can be used to engage cutomers and employees and build your brand.
New Marketing Summit (April 28-29, San Francisco; May 14-15 Milan, ITALY; May 27-28, Dallas; September 30-October 1, Boston): Coordinated by social media heavyweights Chris Brogan, David Meerman Scott and Paul Gillin, the New Marketing Summit met huge success in 2008 and is expanding worldwide in 2009. The theme “From Strategy into Action in 2009” promises to help marketers and PR professionals step into the worlds of online marketing and social media with practical tips and next steps. Also, I hear Milan is gorgeous in May – I’m jealous!
PRSA’s The Digital Impact (April 30-May 1, NYC): Now in its second year, The Digital Impact explores best practices for communicators in an age of new media. A great event for anyone who wants to learn more about emerging technologies and trends and how they impact media relations.
Bulldog Reporter’s Media Relations Summit 2009 (May 17-19, NYC): Bulldog offers sessions on a variety of PR topics at its 2009 summit coupled with keynote speakers Dan Rather and Dan Abrams, along with New York Times staffers Tara Parker Pope, Andrew Ross Sorkin and Saul Hansell. That’s quite the star-studded line-up!
Mediabistro Circus 2009 (June 2-3, NYC): After a successful flagship conference in 2008, Laurel Touby and the cool kids at MediaBistro offer us a second chance to learn about the changing media landscape through this year’s theme “Extraordinary Impact: The Intersection of Media and Technology.”
IABC 2009 World Conference (June 7-10, San Francisco): Featuring seven tracks that include Change Management, Global Trends and Communication Leadership, you can trust that this conference will offer a global perspective on how current trends impact communicators worldwide.
PRSA 2009 International Conference (November 7-10, San Diego): The ultimate conference for all things public relations.
