I’m Writing This Because I’m Spreading Awesome

Scott Stratten inspired this post with his presentation at the 2011 Users Conference; he says that no one cares about your blog, or when you blog – unless you post something awesome.

Okay… what’s awesome? Let’s examine three blog posts that feature it:

We’ll start with Ann Handley’s post on a same-sex discount she talked herself into at London’s Westminster Abbey. It’s a personal story told through her eyes. It’s a genuine glimpse into her mind. It’s funny. It makes us wonder: ‘What would I do?’ And it’s very shareable. Awesome.

Next is Gini Dietrich’s post on the Instagram app. Blown away by a free app, Gini shares the news and tells us where to get it. It’s like getting advice from a neighbor or friend. The post also features three pictures of a dog named Jack Bauer. Simple and awesome.

Last but not least, here’s Peter Shankman’s tale of a car dealer with a slip-up in his marketing tactics. It’s a spur-of-the-moment lesson in customer service from a customer service expert who’d clearly felt compelled to run to his laptop.

Here’s my understanding: Awesome blog posts feel authentic. They’re born from real-life experiences which are often unforeseen. They can be a lesson learned or a lesson taught but they’re related in such a way that readers often feel compelled to share them.

Bloggers: are you doing this? Are you being awesome, or are you risking your loyal following with ‘blah’ content that was posted “on schedule.” Don’t do it: instead, find the awesome in the things you blog about, and spread it in an awesome way.

And speaking of awesome, here are five recent PRWeb news releases that fit the description perfectly .  Enjoy!
