Travel professionals dish on their favorite online industry destinations
Although the height of the tourism season is coming to an end as summer fades into fall in the northern hemisphere, September marks the beginning of the season in the southern hemisphere. Regardless of location, those born with wanderlust will travel no matter what time of year it is. With over 300 online outlets dedicated to the topic of travel in the Vocus database, PR pros looking for visibility within the online world of travel have plenty to choose from. In order to highlight a few, inVocus asked travel industry professionals to dish on their favorite online hubs:
Tnooz.com: A favorite in several circles, this online trade publication targets the tourism and hospitality industry and features news, analysis, and commentary, while also providing data and business services. “What appeals to me most about them (Tnooz.com) is the variety of travel news they cover – startups, large companies, general travel news and even general business tips,” said Jason Demant, co-founder of Unanchor.com, a site that provides self-guided itineraries. Meanwhile, Robert Cole, founder of travel consulting company RockCheetah LLC, likes the site for its coverage of travel technology.
TravelPulse: Featuring news updates on cruises, hotels and resorts; tours and packages; travel technology; and destinations, this travel site also received the thumbs up from more than one industry professional. For Anna Abelson, travel marketing expert with Global Advertising Strategies, TravelPulse and Travel Weekly magazine’s online component top her favorites. “Both sites offer comprehensive industry overview. As someone who needs to be ‘in the know’ of the entire industry, yet time is of the essence, those two sites are solid, reliable one-stop shops,” she said. Echoing her sentiments is travel consultant and certified travel counselor Joseph Sobin, who noted that the site offers a nice daily recap and scannable links.
Hotel Interactive: This online portal provides business tools, news features and reference material on the hospitality industry. It also offers an e-newsletter helpful for hotel and lodging professionals. Sobin is also a fan of this site, which he noted provides a good daily overview of news from the lodging industry.
HotelNewsNow: Focusing on lodging worldwide, this online travel information destination provides the latest news on the hotel and hospitality industry. In addition to providing content on the Web, it also offers email newsletters, including the Daily Update, Hotel Investment Barometer, and Product Showcase. Appealing to Cole is the site’s wide range of topics covered specifically on the hotel industry.
Transitions Abroad (TAZine): Formerly a magazine now existing as a webzine, this site focuses on volunteering, working, studying, traveling and living abroad. “Articles on Transitions Abroad cover all the reasons why people travel internationally – fun, volunteering, service learning, teaching, and short-term or long-term employment,” said Jane Stanfield, speaker, author, and consultant on volunteer travel. “This publication has been around for 20 years and has a huge list of articles from people currently traveling for all those different experiences.”
