Fashion is great, indeed, and Chandra Ramey is sharing her love for it in written form on her blog, the aptly titled Fashion is Great. We talked to her about her blog inspiration, pitching preferences, and the biggest influence on her style.

Q: What inspired you to start blogging?
A: In 2008 I had just graduated design school and was thinking whats next?  At the time I hated my job and had always liked writing so when I heard the website Fashionshanty was hiring I jumped at the opportunity and dove head first into fashion blogging.

Q: What was the biggest influence for your love of fashion?
A: Old Movies! Growing up I was exposed to a lot of old musicals and movies from the 1930s and on. All of those glittering dresses and fantasy storylines  planted the seeds of fashion love in my brain. I still watch a lot of older movies now, theyre like a visual breath of fresh air.

Q: Have you been to New York Fashion Week? If so, what was that like?
A: I have been covering fashion week for the past 6 seasons and it’s always exciting and new but it’s not easy! During fashion week in addition to runway shows and parties there are presentations and other press events happening all the time. It can be a lot to keep up with but it’s kind of a glamorous problem to have so I keep coming back for more season after season!

Q: What is your favorite part of being a fashion blogger?
A: I love being able to have an open fashion conversation everyday! I’m almost always thinking about clothes or hair or style in general all day everyday and having the blog means I can connect and share my thoughts with like minded readers.

Q: What is the most challenging part of your career?
A: Explaining what I do is a challenge sometimes.  Being a blogger requires you to use so many different talents and skills at once, it can be hard for others to understand that they are all connected in one job.

Q: Where do you get ideas for your posts?
A: I look at the world through fashion colored glasses which means I am constantly coming up with new post ideas. I have a long running list of post ideas and if I come up with new ideas I just email them to myself for future reference.

Q: Any tips for PR professionals who want to get in contact with you?
A: Yes, please read my website, fashionisgreat.com, first and make sure that the contact would be mutually beneficial

Q: What are you PR pet peeves, or what is the strangest pitch you’ve received?
A: My pet peeves are getting emails with the name wrong and being offered samples only to receive an email back inferring that they have never heard of my blog before.
