When Midwest native and current New Yorker Hallie Wilson decided to start a blog, her goal was not only to share her love of fashion with her followers, but also use it as a creative outlet for her own fashion-forward lifestyle. corals + cognacs offers Hallie’s personal take on the latest trends, accessories, upcoming events, clothing suggestions and style musings. Read on to learn a bit more about her likes and dislikes in the blogging world, and her tips for PR professionals.

Q: When and why did you decide to start your blog, corals + cognacs?
A: Where I spend my nine-to-five, style takes a backseat to most other things. Since sartorial humor and an expertly-crafted ensemble can get lost in the boardroom, I decided to create a blog, where I’d hoped my writing, styling and arguably unacceptable collection of shoes would be better comprehended.

Q: Tell us how you came up with the name! Are cognacs your favorite drink?
A: Ha! In the cocktail category, I don’t discriminate. To be honest, the name just came to me and clicked. I’m a big color-blocker and a sucker for alliteration in writing. It just fit.

Q: Can you tell us a little about your photography background?
A:  When I first started my site, I took my own photos (using a point-and-shoot, flat surfaces and self-timer). I’ve continued to “upgrade” as my blog has grown. Currently, I shoot all of my own travel/event/lifestyle photos on a Canon T3i. Occasionally, I work with a photographer and friend of mine, Lydia, to photograph style content during the week.

Q: You attended New York Fashion Week…How was it?
A: Yes! This was my third season, although the experience hasn’t lost its pinch-me luster. My goal in creating custom Fashion Week content is to make my reader feel like she’s right there with me, which you can read more about here.

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?
I’m a Scripps grad. And a die-hard Cleveland sports fan.

Q: Best fashion tip for fall?
A: Embrace a palette of jewel tones. And layer!

Q: What are some of the best opportunities you’ve had as a fashion blogger?
A: For me, it’s all about the people. I’m so fortunate that I can leverage my passion to form genuine friendships with bloggers, brands and PR professionals.

Q: What are some of the most challenging aspects?
A: Maintaining a work-life-blog balance. Full-time, I work in social media strategy/client services at MRY.

Q: What are your PR pet peeves?
A: Adding me to your distribution lists without permission. And then blasting me blanket press releases!

Q: Any tips for PR professionals who want to get in contact with you?
A: Keep your e-mails short-and-sweet, please. I know you can relate to this, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day!
