Making it easy to get your arms around the world

As our enterprise customers expand their use of Visible Intelligence around the globe, they need the ability to target posts across many languages and geographies. The new January VI release makes it even easier to analyze this dynamic growth in social conversations.

One of the cool new January VI capabilities is the ability to target posts across numerous languages – with a single search. Once you have that data, you can then use all of the other VI robust filtering and segmentation capabilities to refine to a view that answers your business questions. Let me illustrate with a very simple example:

Business question: Are there worldwide viewers for the Super Bowl?

Answer: Yes, but, all of that conversation is not in English.



The map above shows the conversation locations (darker shades of blue indicate relative volumes of conversation). Not surprisingly, posts are originating around the world. VI tells me that largely the conversation is in English (96.2%). But, if we exclude English, where does the conversation take place? (top 5 listed below for each).

The lion’s share of both English – and non-English – Super Bowl posts are from the US. Of course, with VI, it is very easy to get beyond these top-line views and further segment the data.

Business Question: in which locations was there conversation about the Radio Shack commercial (my pick as the best for this year’s Super Bowl)?

Answer: US (83.6%), Australia (4.6%), UK (3.4%), Canada (1.8%), and Spain (1%)

I simply used the category Radio Shack – and could overlay that on the “all languages” or “exclude English” searches with a single click. Or, even further segmented:

Business Question: what are some of the prominent forums where the Spanish & Portuguese Super Bowl conversation took place?

Answer: UOL Jogos, HTFORUM,,…

The great thing about Visible Intelligence is that there are no constraints. Although Super Bowl conversation produced millions of post within a 7 day period, I was able to access – and segment this data rapidly and easily. And, there is more to come in the coming months as we continue to make it easy for our users to get their arms around the world.
