Media Moves at LA Times, PR News & HuffPost, Promotion at Fox News Digital

The Los Angeles Times has added two new tech reporters to its business desk, and a baseball writer in sports:

  • Gautham Nagesh has joined the staff as tech reporter, effective Sept. 17. He was most recently a writer for The Wall Street Journal out of Detroit, and covered the auto industry. He had been with WSJ since 2013, and before that worked for Congressional Quarterly.   
  • Wendy Lee has been added as a reporter covering digital media, effective Sept. 10. She will focus on the growing influence of tech giants like Apple, Google and Netflix on Hollywood, how studios are adapting to digital disruption and the rise of digital music companies such as Spotify. Lee comes from the San Francisco Chronicle where she spent four years covering the same industry. 
  • Jorge Castillo has joined the sports desk as a sports reporter covering the LA Dodgers. He comes from The Washington Post, where he covered basketball and the Wizards for four years. 

After an eight year absence, Les Carpenter has returned to the Washington Post as a sports reporter covering the Washington Redskins. He worked for WaPo from 2005 to 2010, and left the paper for Yahoo! Sports where he stayed for three years. Most recently, Carpenter was a writer for The Guardian out of New York. 

Fox News Channel has promoted Porter Berry to vice president and editor in chief of digital. For the last seven years, Berry has been the executive producer for Hannity and The Five shows on Fox News. He joined the network in 2004 as segment producer for The O'Reilly Factor. 

Melissa Hoffmann has joined PR News as editorial and content director. She joins the staff following a brief stint as a strategist for Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. Prior to that, she was the global managing editor for American Lawyer Media's global newsroom. Before that, she was a senior editor at Adweek. 

After five years at HuffPost's Queer VoicesJames Nichols has left the outlet to work on a book. His last day was Sept. 4. Nichols has been with HuffPost since 2013, when he joined the staff of Queer Voices as a fellow. He quickly moved up the chain to become the vertical's associate editor in 2014, deputy editor in 2015, and editor in 2017. 

WQMX-FM country radio in Akron, Ohio has upped Ken Steel to program director, in addition to his duties as afternoon drive personality. He assumes the PD role from Sue Wilson, who left the station at the end of June. Steel has been with WQMX since 1993, and worked the 7pm till midnight shift until 2000. 

Katherine Marchand has joined ABC-owned KTRK-TV in Houston as a reporter. She comes from Sinclair-owned WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she spent three years as a reporter. Prior to that, she was an intern at WSB-TV in Atlanta, CNN, and The White House. 

NBC affiliated WOAI-TV in San Antonio, Texas has moved sports anchor David Chancellor to mornings, as the new mornings news anchor. He will deliver the news alongside newly hired Alexis Del Cid. He has been with the station since 1993, and in 2003 he received a Texas Emmy for Best Sports Reporter. He's also been honored with a Katie Award from the Dallas Press Club in 2002 and Associated Press in 2002.
