Media Moves at NBC Nightly News & NPR, New Finance Writer at Forbes
Jenn Suozzo has been named executive producer for NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, after several months of serving as the program's interim executive producer. She took over as the interim EP after Sam Singal stepped down in July. Before that, she was the senior broadcast producer of Nightly for three years, and before that, the weekend broadcast. She also launched, and was the first EP of, Andrea Mitchell Reports. She has been with NBC since 1999.
NPR has hired several new staff, including a top executive and two investigative correspondents:
- Nancy Barnes has been named NPR’s senior VP of news and editorial director, effective Nov. 28. She comes from Hearst Texas Newspapers and the Houston Chronicle, where she served as the executive editor. Before that, she was the editor and executive VP of the Star Tribune.
- Sacha Pfeiffer will join NPR in November as investigative correspondent. She was previously a reporter and columnist at the Boston Globe covering wealth, philanthropy and non-profits since 2014. Before that, she was a host and senior reporter for WBUR-FM in Boston.
- Cheryl W. Thompson, associate professor of journalism at the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs and a contributing investigative reporter at The Washington Post, will also join NPR's Investigations Team as a correspondent. She is also a former metro reporter, national reporter and White House correspondent for the Post.
Walter Hickey will join INSIDER as senior editor, focusing on data. He was previously the chief culture writer for FiveThirtyEight, and before that spent a year as politics and markets reporter for Business Insider. Hickey has also interned at the Center for Responsive Politics.
Shondaland.com, the website owned by Shonda Rhimes, has tapped Robbie Myers as editor in chief. Myers spent nearly 18 years at the helm of ELLE, and will oversee all editorial content and strategy for the Shondaland site. Before ELLE, Myers worked for Miabella Magazine as editor in chief.
Asia Martin is the new personal finance writer for Forbes. She comes from Financial Advisor where she spent a year as a writer reporting on brokerages, registered investment advisors, and industry trends. She has also freelanced for Patch.com and reported for NJ.com covering local governments and events.
CBS-owned WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C. has bid farewell to Carlton Houston. He has been the assistant news director for the station since joining the staff in 2015. He previously worked as news director at KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and KTUL-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Kristin Byrne has joined NBC's WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as a reporter. She comes from WEWS-TV in Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked as multimedia journalist for four years. Before that, she reported for WBAY-TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Tiger Oak Media in Minneapolis has announced that the Minnesota Business Journal will cease publishing with its November/December issue. The magazine's website will remain live until the end of the year.
