Media Moves at National Geographic & MSNBC, Three New Deputy Editors at WSJ
Dina Maron has joined National Geographic as senior wildlife trade investigative reporter and will exclusively cover wildlife crime. She previously spent five years at Scientific American, where she wrote and edited stories on the biotechnology and healthcare beat. She also helped open the magazine's Washington, D.C. bureau. Maron is also a science and medical freelance writer, and her work has appeared in Newsweek, Time.com, and Businessweek, among others.
MSNBC and NBC News have welcomed Alex Stamos, former chief security officer at Facebook and current professor at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation, as a cybersecurity analyst. Stamos has also previously worked as chief information security office for Yahoo.
The Wall Street Journal has made several staff promotions on its corporate team:
- Vanessa Fuhrmans is now a deputy editor at The Wall Street Journal covering management and careers. She was previously a reporter for the Journal and has been on staff since 1999.
- David Marcelis has been promoted to deputy editor covering media and marketing, upped from senior editor of business news. He has been with the Journal since 2006, when he joined the staff as online editor.
- Brad Reagan has been promoted to deputy editor at The Wall Street Journal covering social media. He is based at the San Francisco bureau. Reagan was previously an investing editor for the Journal, and joined the staff in 2009 as an assistant business editor.
David Ginsberg has been named publisher of Allrecipes magazine. He was previously an account director for the title, and has been on staff since 2013. Before that, he was an integrated account manager for Popular Science, Field & Stream, and Outdoor Life.
McClatchy Newspapers has announced that Tim Grieve will step down from the position of vice president of news on Nov. 7. He is leaving to join a new venture in the media space. Grieve has been with McClatchy since 2015, and before that served as the editor in chief of the National Journal for two years. Before that, he was the managing editor of Politico and the editor in chief of Politico Pro.
Megan Hickey has joined Chicago's CBS affiliate WBBM-TV as a reporter. She comes from WLS-TV, where she spent the last year as a general assignment reporter. Before that, she worked for WEWS-TV in Cleveland, Ohio, and WNDU-TV in South Bend, Indiana.
ABC-owned WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has promoted Brittany Hoke to weekend evening anchor. She has been with the station since 2017, and before that honed her anchor skills at two West Virginia stations: WDTV-TV in Weston, and WSAZ-TV in Huntington.
