Media Moves at Sports Illustrated & The Atlantic, New GM at Oprah Winfrey Network
The Atlantic has promoted two of its staff to the top of the magazine's masthead:
- Don Peck is now top print editor, upped from deputy editor. He first joined The Atlantic in 2001 as a researcher and later a junior editor. Peck has been the magazine’s deputy editor since 2013 and most recently also served as acting editor.
- Denise Kersten Wills has been promoted to deputy editor. She was previously a senior editor, and joined The Atlantic from Politico magazine and before that was an editor at Washingtonian.
Chris Mannix has rejoined Sports Illustrated as a senior writer. He will help lead SI’s NBA coverage in the magazine, on SI.com and on SI TV. Mannix will continue his role as an NBA analyst for NBC Sports Boston and as a host for DAZN boxing. In addition, he hosts a show on Fox Sports Radio and contributes regularly to Fox Sports 1. Mannix was most recently a senior NBA writer at Yahoo! Sports, and previously worked at Sports Illustrated from 2003 to 2015.
Alisa Tang is the new weekend home page editor at The Washington Post overseeing online content, national news and breaking news. She has been with WaPo since 2017, when she joined the staff as overnight editor. Before that, she spent five years at Thomson Reuters Foundation as sub-editor and correspondent.
The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) longtime president Erik Logan has stepped down from his role to join the World Surf League as president/content, media & WSL studios. He has helmed the network for the past seven years. Replacing him as general manager is Tina Perry, who will begin her new duties at OWN in January 2019. Perry is promoted from executive VP of business and legal affairs, and will oversee all business and creative areas of OWN.
Theresa Agovino has joined the Society for Human Resource Management as the workplace editor. She writes about all the issues facing the work place, including diversity, wage inequity, AI and office technology, harassment, the skills gap, office design and generational inclusion. Early next year, she will be part of a team launching a newsletter on workplace issues for SHRM. Agovino has previously worked for Commercial Mortgage Alert and Crain's New York Business, and contributed to Forbes.
Meredith Corp. has promoted Mark Josephson to SVP/group publisher, adding responsibility for Meredith's food brands – Allrecipes, EatingWell, and Rachael Ray Every Day. Josephson will continue to oversee Parents, Magnolia Journal and Midwest Living. He has been with the company since 2015.
ABC's KGO-TV in San Francisco has brought on two new general assignment reporters to its newsroom:
- Amanda del Castillo has been hired full time as a staff reporter, after working for the station on a freelancing basis for the past five months. She was previously reported for KMGH-TV in Dever, Colorado, KCEN-TV in Temple, Texas, and KCWY in Casper, Wyoming.
- Jobina Fortson has joined the staff as a reporter. She comes from WAVE in Louisville, Kentucky, where she was breaking news anchor and reporter.
