The New York Times announced updates to its Washington bureau, including several moves from New York, beat changes and a new hire.

  • Lara Jakes joined the paper as Washington night editor. She was previously managing editor for news at Foreign Policy, where she joined as deputy managing editor in 2014.
  • Sharon LaFraniere, previously a general investigative reporter in New York, is now on the Washington investigations team.
  • Yamiche Alcindor also moved from New York to cover the Trump administration’s impact on everyday life. She previously covered national politics and the 2016 election after spending four years at USA Today.
  • Katie Rogers joined the bureau to cover the Trump administration’s cultural impact. She previously reported for NYT’s Express rewrite team, and also worked on NYT Now.
  • Jeremy Peters, who has been covering national politics, shifted focus to coverage of conservatives.
  • Matthew Rosenberg has honed in on the CIA after covering national security and intelligence.
  • Alan Rappeport now covers the Department of the Treasury. He has been covering national politics since 2014.
  • Gardiner Harris, previously a White House correspondent since 2015, now covers the State Department.
  • Michael R. Gordon shifts beats from national security to the Pentagon specifically.
