Laura Smitherman has joined NPR as deputy national editor overseeing eastern region coverage. She joins NPR after serving as assistant managing editor for The Baltimore Sun since 2011. Smitherman previously held positions as business editor and reporter and Statehouse reporter for The Baltimore Sun from 2005 through 2010. Prior to joining The Sun, she was a Congressional reporter for Bloomberg News. Follow NPR on Twitter.
