Politico has hired Dafna Linzer as executive editor to oversee the news, Washington and politics, states and enterprise teams. Most recently she was the managing editor for politics at NBC News and MSNBC, where she led the network’s coverage for campaign reporting political enterprise and political investigative teams, White House and Capitol Hill original reporting. Prior to that, Linzer was the first senior investigative reporter hired at Pro Publica, where she wrote about criminal justice reform, race disparities, and human rights law. Before that, she was a national security correspondent at The Washington Post.
Dustin Wyatt has joined the Orlando Sentinel as a growth, development and real estate reporter. He was previously a reporter at Lakeland Ledger, a newspaper part of the USA Today Network in Florida, where he wrote on waste management, transportation, public policy, public safety, growth and development in Polk County. Before that, Wyatt spent five years at the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
E&E News has welcomed back Robin Bravender this time as general assignment reporter for Greenwire covering big environmental and energy stories. She comes to Greenwire from Insider, where she was a senior correspondent and before that spent a year-and-a-half as the Washington bureau chief at Sates Newsroom. Bravender's first E&E News stint was from 2013 to 2017 and served as a reporter and deputy editor for Climatewire.
Alexis Jones is the new senior health editor at Popsugar covering health, mental health, love and sex, wellness, and more. She was most recently a senior editor at Health Magazine, where she oversaw The Share section of the publication. Before that, Jones spent almost three years at Hearst Magazines as an assistant editor for Women's Health and an editorial assistant to the VP of content.
ProPublica has hired Ziva Branstetter as a senior editor running the investigative team; she starts on April 12. Branstetter comes to ProPublica from The Washington Post, where she spent four years as corporate accountability team editor. Before that, she was a senior editor for Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting.
The Wall Street Journal has announced several staff updates on the Finance team:
- Angel Au-Yeung has joined the paper as beat reporter on BlackRock and will write about asset management and the buy side of Wall Street. She comes to the Journal from Forbes, where she was on the billionaires beat.
- Laura Cooper has moved from WSJ Pro Private Equity to the Finance team to write about deals, private equity and more. She has been at the Journal since 2015.
- Ben Foldy now covers financial crime, fraud and enforcement. He was previously an autos reporter in the Detroit bureau and covered the automotive industry with a focus on EVs/batteries, federal policy, and new technologies.
- Charley Grant now covers Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. He was previously part of the Heard team and reported on electric vehicles and healthcare. Grant has been at the paper since 2015.
Andrew Couts has joined WIRED as senior editor overseeing the security desk. He spent the past four years at Gizmodo, most recently as executive editor and the interim editor in chief before that. Couts has also served as Gizmodo's managing editor and deputy editor, and before that oversaw politics at The Daily Dot.
- Josh Schimmels, the publisher and chief executive of the Los Angeles Business Journal, has added the title of publisher and chief executive of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal, effective April 1. He has been at LABJ since March 2020 and before that has held publishing roles at AZ Big Media and D Magazine.
- Charles Crumpley, the editor and publisher of the San Fernando Valley news operation, will become editor in chief of both publications. He has been at the helm of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal since 2016 and before that served as an editor a LABJ for a decade.
- Stephanie Barbaran, who has been interim editor of the Los Angeles Business Journal, and Joel Russell, who has been editor of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal, will be managing editors of the combined operation.
Aly Brumback is the new assistant managing editor of audience and engagement at Crain’s Chicago Business. She spent the past nine months as an audience engagement specialist for Modern Healthcare. Before that, Brumback spent almost a decade at the Chicago Tribune in various roles, including digital news editor and producer, and content editor.
Citywire has hired Paromita Dey as deputy editor, covering wealth management, asset management, financial regulation, independent asset managers and family offices in the Middle East. Most recently she was a business editor at Argaam Investments in Dubai and has also previously worked as a business editor at BNC Publishing and a reporter at ITP Media Group.
Talia Soglin is the new business reporter at Chicago Tribune. She previously served as an intern on the Metro desk at the paper and wrote the Tribune’s weekly dining, entertainment and travel newsletter. Before that, Soglin held internships with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Chicago-based Injustice Watch.
MIT Technology Review has tapped Zeyi Yang as a reporter covering China and East Asia. He was most recently a reporter at Protocol, where he spent a year covering Chinese tech policies, major technology companies, and the gaming industry. Prior to that, Yang was a freelance writer and contributed to Columbia Journalism Review and the South China Morning Post.
Mark J. Burns has rejoined Morning Consult as a senior brands reporter. He joins the outlet from Sports Business Journal, where he was a sports business reporter covering hockey and soccer. Before that, he was a senior business reporter at Morning Consult and a contributor at Forbes.
Boston Business Journal has welcomed Cassie McGrath as a reporter covering healthcare. She spent the past year ta MassLive.com as a news reporter and before that interned at Frontline PBS. McGrath is a recent graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and spent three tears as the head news editor at The Massachusetts Daily Collegian.
Tom McKay has joined Morning Brew as a senior IT/cybersecurity reporter to help launch an IT and cybersecurity newsletter. He spent the past five years at Gizmodo, where he covers the intersection of tech and politics, online extremism, and tech policy on issues ranging from cryptocurrency to cybersecurity. Before that, McKay worked for Mic, and his work has appeared on Yahoo News, AOL, HuffPo, Business Insider, and others.
FOX News Audio has named Gianna Gelosi anchor of Fox News Headlines 24/7. She joins Therese Crowley and CJ Papa, covering entertainment, social media trends and breaking news on the network’s SiriusXM channel. She will also file news reports for Fox News Radio syndicated programs and contribute to Fox News Podcasts. Most recently, Gelosi was an evening anchor for News 12 Long Island and News 12 Westchester.
Lulu Chiang has joined ABC News as vice president of digital content, effective March 28. She oversees the editorial operations of ABC News’ digital brands – ABC News, GMA Digital and FiveThirtyEight. Chiang joins the network from Yahoo Finance, where she was a senior executive producer leading the newsgathering and field production processes.
NBC News and MSNBC have hired Maggie Vespa as a Chicago-based correspondent. She was most recently a reporter at NBC affiliate KGW in Portland, Oregon, since 2014. She also worked as a reporter for KGUN, the ABC affiliate in Tucson, Arizona.
Jennifer Ludden has been promoted to senior editor/correspondent for NPR's National Desk, covering economic inequality. She has been at NPR since 1995 and has covered a wide range of beats national security after 9/11, immigration, and how shifting economics and culture are changing family life.
KMSP-TV, the Fox station in Minneapolis, Minnesota has hired Rose Schmidt as a reporter. She joins the station from WDJT-TV CBS 58 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she was a reporter since 2019. Before that, she reported for WISC-TV in Madison, Wisconsin and an intern at CNN before that.
Matt Fernandez has joined ABC affiliate KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas as a general assignment reporter. He most recently worked at News 13 Orlando as a multimedia journalist and at CBS42 in Birmingham, Alabama, as a reporter before that.
